Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero is a summer transfer option for South American giants Boca Juniors, according to ESPN Argentina.
Romero has been a member of Manchester United since 2015 when he was signed by then-manager Louis van Gaal. The Argentine was one of the best backup goalkeepers during his tenure at Old Trafford, serving as David de Gea’s understudy.
After Marcos Rojo, Boca Juniors are trying to convince also Sergio Romero to join the club as a free agent. The Argentinian goalkeeper has already received many proposals as he’s gonna leave Manchester United at the end of the season. 🔴🇦🇷 #MUFC @CLMerlo

However, the 34-year-old has not played a single game for Manchester United since last season. Dean Henderson, who had returned from a promising loan spell at Sheffield United, was promoted to No. 2 at Old Trafford, dragging Romero down the pecking order.
Romero had been linked with a move away from the club both in the summer and during the January transfer window. However, a transfer did not take place. However, the veteran goalkeeper’s tenure at Manchester United could be coming to an end at the end of the season.
Romero’s deal with the 20-time English champions expires in a matter of months. And it seems that one club in his home country is lined up to sign him.
According to journalist Augusto Cesar, Boca Juniors could need a goalkeeper this summer, with current first-choice Esteban Andrada linked with a move to Europe. And the club has narrowed its search for a successor to Romero.
So much so that Boca Juniors have already begun discussions of bringing in the 34-year-old goalkeeper.
For the last five years or so, Romero has been a valuable member of the club’s staff. His time at Old Trafford, though, is coming to an end. It remains to be seen if he can negotiate a move to Boca Juniors before his deal expires.
