The FIFA Club World Cup winners list is filled with world-class teams from Corinthians in 2000 to Chelsea in 2021. FIFA, the world governing organization of association football, is in charge of organizing the FIFA Club World Cup. It serves as the Intercontinental Cup’s successor or continuance. The competition began in 2000 as the FIFA Club World Championship. Due to a number of reasons, most notably the demise of FIFA’s commercial partner International Sport and Leisure, it was not hosted between 2001 and 2004. The Intercontinental Cup was replaced by the FIFA Club World Championship after a format change, and it was revived in 2005. The next season, it received its current name.
2000: Corinthians
On January 14, 2000, an association football game known as the 2000 FIFA Club World Championship Final was played at the Estádio do Maracan in Rio de Janeiro. The 2000 FIFA Club World Championship final between Corinthians and Vasco da Gama was an all-Brazilian affair. After a goalless 120 minutes, Corinthians won the penalty shootout 4-3 to win the FIFA Club World Cup and become the first team to defeat a team from their own country in the championship match.
2005: Sao Paulo
With Mineiro’s goal in the first half, So Paulo gained the advantage in front of 66,821 spectators. In the first half, Liverpool had several chances to tie the game. They dominated possession in the second half and had three goals disallowed as well. They had numerous opportunities to score, but So Paulo held on to win the game 1-0 despite them.
2006: Internacional
Barcelona of Spain, the UEFA club champion, faced Internacional of Brazil, the CONMEBOL club champions, in the game. In front of 67,128 spectators, Internacional prevailed 1-0 thanks to a counterattack spearheaded by Iarley and a goal by Adriano Gabiru in the 82nd minute.
2007: Milan
The match pitted Boca Juniors of Argentina, the CONMEBOL club champions, against Milan of Italy, the UEFA club champions. In front of 68,263 spectators, Milan triumphed 4-2 in the game. Milan, therefore, became the first European club and non-Brazilian squad to join the FIFA Club World Cup winners list.
2008: Manchester United
The match between LDU Quito of Ecuador, the CONMEBOL club champions, and Manchester United of England, the UEFA club champions, took place on December 21, 2008, at the International Stadium Yokohama, Japan. Despite being down to ten men early in the second half, Manchester United prevailed 1-0 thanks to a goal by Wayne Rooney in the 73rd minute to become the first English club to join the FIFA Club World Cup winners list
2009: Barcelona
Forward Mauro Boselli of Estudiantes scored the game’s first goal in the 37th minute, but Pedro of Barcelona tied the score with one minute remaining in regulation. In the fifth minute of the second overtime period, Lionel Messi scored the game-winning goal to give Barcelona a record-tying sixth championship for the whole 2009 calendar year.
2010: Inter Milan
A club from outside of Europe or South America participated in the final for the first time. Inter defeated TP Mazembe in the championship game 3-0. Before Jonathan Biabiany scored the third goal in the 85th minute to clinch Inter Milan’s first championship, Goran Pandev and Samuel Eto’o each scored twice in the opening period.
2011: Barcelona
Santos, the CONMEBOL champion, and Barcelona, the UEFA champion, faced off in the championship game. Two years after winning the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup in 2009, Barcelona trounced Santos 4-0 to claim their second title.2009.
2012: Corinthians
On December 16, 2012, the CONMEBOL champion Corinthians and UEFA champion Chelsea met in the championship game at the International Stadium Yokohama in Yokohama. Paolo Guerrero’s header gave Corinthians a 1-0 victory over Chelsea, giving them their second FIFA Club World Cup.FIFA Club World Cup.
2013: Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich of Germany, representing UEFA as the current UEFA Champions League champions, faced Raja Casablanca of Morocco, representing the host nation as the current UEFA Botola champions, in the final. On December 21, 2013, it was performed at the Stade de Marrakech in Marrakech.
2014: Real Madrid
The Copa Libertadores and UEFA Champions League champions Real Madrid of Spain and San Lorenzo of Argentina squared off in the championship match. San Lorenzo represented CONMEBOL and was the defending champion of the Copa Libertadores. On December 20, 2014, it was performed at the Stade de Marrakech in Marrakech. The Spanish club won the game 2-0 and claimed their first FIFA Club World Cup victory as well as their fourth overall world club championship, including the Intercontinental Cups from 1960, 1998, and 2002.
2015: Barcelona
The Copa Libertadores and UEFA Champions League champions of Spain’s FC Barcelona and Argentina’s River Plate squared off in the championship game. River Plate represented CONMEBOL as the defending Copa Libertadores champions. On December 20, 2015, it was held at the International Stadium Yokohama in that city. Barcelona won the match 3-0 to win the FIFA Club World Cup for the third time. Barcelona’s victory marked their fifth championship of the year.
2016: Real Madrid
Spanish club Real Madrid, representing UEFA as the current UEFA Champions League champions, faced off against Japanese club Kashima Antlers, representing the host nation as the current J1 League champions, in the championship match. It was the first time an Asian team competed in the championship. On December 18, 2016, the game took place at the International Stadium Yokohama in Yokohama.
2017: Real Madrid
Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal gave Real Madrid a 1-0 victory and their third FIFA Club World Cup victory. After Real won the FIFA Club World Cup the previous year, this was the first time a team had successfully defended their title. The triumph also represented the ninth Club World Cup title for a UEFA squad.
2018: Real Madrid
Real Madrid broke the stalemate with Barcelona and won the competition by a score of 4-1 to claim their third straight and fourth overall FIFA Club World Cup championship.
2019: Liverpool
After placing second three times in a row (in 1981, 1984, and 2005), Liverpool won the game 1-0 in overtime to win their first FIFA Club World Cup championship. Liverpool received a prize check for £4 million as the champions.
2020: Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich prevailed 1-0 to win the game and the FIFA Club World Cup for the second time. After Barcelona in 2009, Bayern became the second European team to win six trophies in a calendar year with the victory; they had previously won a continental treble as well as domestic and continental super cups in the 2020–21 season.
2021: Chelsea
The defending champions of the UEFA Champions League, English club Chelsea, and Copa Libertadores, CONMEBOL, and Brazilian club Palmeiras, respectively, faced off in the championship game. Chelsea won the game 2-1 in overtime to win the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time.
