Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is taking a gander at modifying the squad in the summer transfer window according to reports from The Times.

He feels that if Manchester City is to win back the title from Liverpool next season, they have to put resources into the squad and bring players the correct profile.

The report claims the Spaniard is meeting with the City board to examine which players should leave the club. After City fell 23 points behind Jürgen Klopp ‘s side, Guardiola feels it’s a need to sign a central defender.

The city is interested in unloading Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi while the club is tuning in to offers for John Stones.

The 26-year-old defender joined Everton with City in 2016 for a detailed £47.5 m charge. He was the second most costly defender in the world back at that point.

Stones has made in excess of 125 appearances in all rivalries for City and won two titles in the Premier League.

Stones has made just 12 appearances in the Premier League this season and Guardiola is hoping to unload it.

Newcastle United will see the news come as an enormous lift.

Nicolo Schira, a reliable journalist and transfer master back in May, claimed that Newcastle was quick to sign the defender of the city and that the Magpies also had talked to sign him.

The Magpies made sure about their safety in the Premier League on Wednesday with a great 4-1 win over Bournemouth.

Stones would be great getting paperwork done for them, yet the transfer strategy for Newcastle will rely largely upon whether the takeover will experience.
