Aston Villa has completed the signing of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona for £17m. The Brazilian has signed a four-year deal with the club. Coutinho joined earlier this season on a six-month loan with manager Steven Gerrard convincing him to sign permanently. He has scored four goals and provided three assists in his 16 Premier League appearances. Barcelona has inserted a sell-on clause where they will receive half of the transfer fee in case of Villa decides to move him on. Coutinho played with Gerrard at Liverpool before joining Barcelona for £146m. He scored 26 goals for the La Liga club in his 106 appearances. After failing to deliver, he spent a year on loan at Bayern Munich in 2019/20.

Phil is a model professional and his impact on the group has been very clear since he joined in January,” Aston Villa head coach Steven Gerrard said after Philippe Coutinho completed his transfer from Barcelona. “With the way, he conducts himself on and off the pitch, he’s also a valuable role model for our younger players, who can only benefit from his experience. As we look to build towards next season, it is incredible to work at a club that executes its business so decisively and smoothly.”
