Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has safeguarded goalkeeper David de Gea after he came in for some parsimonious analysis from Roy Keane for his performance in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw.

Keane said he would have been “swinging punches” at De Gea had he been half-time in the Man Utd changing area after the Spaniard failed to ward off the main half drive of Steven Bergwijn.

After what he sees as a string of prominent blunders, the previous Red Devils captain proceeded to say he was “wiped out to death” of De Gea, saying he would get a cab back to Manchester after the match instead of taking the team transport.

His goalie, who also made a fine stop to forestall Son Heung-Min, kidding his previous team-mate Keane wouldn’t have improved, Solskjaer leaped to the salvage.

“All things considered, I’m frustrated that the first time they’ve had a chance [see them] they score and the kid hit it quite well. Roy has been a fantastic midfielder, an old buddy of mine, I don’t know he ‘d stop it is possible that” he said.

The Red Devils were significantly improved after the break and came near being equalized when Hugo Lloris wonderfully increased the exertion of Anthony Martial. They eventually gained a level through the penalty of Bruno Fernandes with nine minutes left after Eric Dier had fouled Paul Pogba.

The draw means United currently stands only two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and stretches out their unbeaten rush to 12 matches in all rivalries.

“Great performance, disappointed with the one point. I think we merited more. I think three points worth the performance,” Solskjaer added.
