Match Review

Burnley all but guaranteed their safety with a resounding 4-0 win away at Molineux. Chris Wood scored a first-half hat-trick to punish a lackadaisical performance by the Wolves backline. He capitalized on two errors from the Wolves defenders in the first half an hour to give Burnley a 2-0 lead. He completed his hat-trick just before halftime.

Burnley has let leads slip in recent weeks but didn’t look threatened by a toothless Wolves attack. Ashley Westwood capped a resounding 4-0 victory after being set up by hattrick hero Wood. His long-range strike whistled past Rui Patricio in the Wolves’ goal. Burnley’s victory over Wolves has taken them nine points clear of Fulham in 17th place; the last of the relegation places in the Premier League.

Managers Reaction:

Nuno Espirito Santo

“Burnley had movement, we were not able to get out of their pressure, we were not able to keep possession.” Espirito Santo said. “It is not about mentality or character, these are the same group of players. It is about not making the right decisions. The game requires mobility and we did not have it. As the game goes on, the mistakes increase and we were not able to settle down and play the game as we should.”

Sean Dyche

“The reason why I signed Chris Wood is that he gets in the positions. There are certain things in football that are hard to coach, it is like an instinct. He does find a way. He is in good form, Woody.” Dyche said. “Over the last few games our performance level has been very good and deserved more than three losses, that’s for sure. Today, we corrected that by correcting the details at both ends of the pitch. It was a very thorough performance.”
