Thomas Tuchel has spoken with Tammy Abraham about his prospects at Chelsea after the striker was forced down the pecking order under the German.

Abraham is about to hit the final year of his term at Stamford Bridge, and an extension is yet to be agreed upon.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-chances old’s of making England’s roster for this summer’s European Championship is jeopardized due to a lack of game time after Tuchel took over in January.

And, with Erling Haaland a top summer transfer priority, Abraham’s future is much more unclear.

He is set to make his first appearance in the FA Cup quarter-final against Sheffield United on Sunday after being appointed as an unused substitute against Atletico Madrid last month.

Though Abraham’s absence has been caused in part by an ankle injury, he has also failed to adapt to Tuchel’s structure as the Chelsea boss has regularly rotated his attack.

Tuchel has now shared details of his conversations with the forward.

“We had some talks to persuade him to never give up, to embrace the situation, to not overthink it, to return to the situation where the striker must not overthink it,” he added.

“He has to be in the zone because if the team is winning without him, you can feel left out. But it’s not like this with him, but hopefully, he will be back now, back in the team, be free, because there are some tough decisions to make. After all, he’s a member of the community.

It’s been difficult for him because he’s never felt really free, completely painless since this tackle (against Newcastle), so it’s been difficult for him to deliver on the level that you need to perform in training to persuade the coach to leave someone else out.

It was a difficult choice to leave him out at the time, but we had other opportunities on the bench.”

Tuchel is also trying to strike the best balance of attack, but Abraham has had the most trouble fitting into a flexible front line.
