La Liga president Javier Tebas has spoken out about striker Lionel Messi’s potential departure from Barcelona.
“Messi could not leave Barca because of his current deal, but as I said and as Cristiano Ronaldo has shown, La Liga is financially ready for such a move,” Tebas told Egyptian TV channel ONsport.
“Ronaldo’s decision to leave Real Madrid was made by the club. I have no authority to speak on the subject, but I’ve always wanted to see La Liga’s best players. The same thing happened with Neymar before.”
“Cristiano was La Liga’s top scorer, and his exit had an impact on us. However, since we were well prepared for the change, the financial effect was minimal.”
Messi’s latest Barcelona deal expires this summer. He hasn’t made up his mind about staying at the bar.
