Fernando Santos, the head coach of Portugal, has spoken out about Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo.
Santos told A Bola, “I’m sure Cristiano is extremely driven. It’s not that he scored higher or lower than anyone else. When he plays for the national team, he gives his all to the game. I am sure he will come to us with the same ambition, not worrying about personal ambitions, but about achieving the team’s objectives.
I’m sure he has a huge ambition: to qualify for the World Cup, play in it, and win it. All else is no longer for the national team since that is the main goal.”
Ronaldo is officially ranked second all-time in national team goal-scoring. For Portugal, the forward has 102 goals. Ali Daei, a former Iranian striker, has 109 goals to his name.
In March, Portugal will face Azerbaijan, Serbia, and Luxembourg.
