Riyad Mahrez agrees with his boss after Pep Guardiola told the Manchester City squad that if expectations dropped, they will be dropped.

City defeated the Wolves to extend their Premier League lead to 15 points ahead of Manchester United, who play on Wednesday. It was City’s 21st consecutive win and their 28th game without a loss, tying their club record.

Mahrez was involved in both of City’s first two goals against a tenacious Wolves team, either side of Conor Coady’s late equalizer. Late in the game, the Algerian scored a third to bring the game out of control, and Gabriel Jesus added a fourth before the end.

After the game, Mahrez praised his teammate’s demeanor in what seemed to be a stressful game for long stretches.

According to BT Sport, he said: “It was a difficult game; I believe we started very well, scoring first and creating chances, and we should have won the game in the first half. The second half was more difficult, as they pushed harder, but we still managed to build openings. They were able to tie the game at 1-1. We played well in the second half, never giving up, pushing, and creating chances before we scored.

You can have the ball for up to 95% of the time but still have to kill the game. We didn’t do that in the first half and still leave an opponent with a chance to come back.

The last ten minutes were amazing. We scored and won the game, so we’re excited to keep playing.”

Mahrez was then questioned about Guardiola’s pre-match remarks, which included the following: “This is the stage where I believe everyone believes the job is done, and these guys will not play. I have a sixth sense for when the guys aren’t going to proceed. Liverpool is the champions, but we are not.”

As a result, Mahrez embraced Guardiola’s one-game-at-a-time strategy as the best way to remain on track during the season without getting ahead of themselves.
