Zinedine Zidane, the manager of Real Madrid, has confirmed that the club is interested in re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.
The 36-year-old joined Juventus from Real Madrid in 2018 for a fee of about £99 million, but in his three years in Turin, he has struggled to deliver the Champions League trophy that the club craves.
Although Ronaldo’s signing could not be blamed entirely on him, it was seen as the final piece of the puzzle for the Serie A giants, who had finished second in the competition in two of the previous three years.
Juventus, on the other hand, was eliminated by Porto earlier this week, creating doubts about Ronaldo’s future in Italy.
Ronaldo’s contract expires in a year, and if he is not extended, the club risks losing him on a free transfer next season. The Portugal captain is said to be contemplating his future at the club because he is well aware that time is running out to add to his trophy cabinet, with Juventus likely to lose out to Inter Milan for the title.
Since his departure, Real Madrid has desperately missed the 36-year-old, and the talk was rife this week following Juventus’ exit from the European Cup that the La Liga giants would consider re-signing him.
And Zidane has reported that the rumors contain some facts, with the Frenchman speculating that Ronaldo might return to the Bernabeu.
