Real Betis came back from a two-goal deficit at home to beat Alaves 3-2 in La Liga on Monday, keeping their European qualification hopes alive.
Betis’ fourth consecutive win pulled them within three points of Real Sociedad in fifth position and six points behind fourth-placed Sevilla.
On 11 minutes, Joselu scored, and on 24 minutes, Edgar Mendez made it 2-0 for the visitors.
On the hour, Ruben Duarte brought down Nabil Fekir and Borja Iglesias converted the penalty to get Betis back into the game.
With Joaquin’s header nine minutes from time, it seemed that Alaves will have to settle for a point.
Emerson fizzed a cross into the area in 88 minutes, and Iglesias met it with a bullet header to seal the victory.
“I’m delighted to assist the squad,” Iglesias said.
“At the moment, I have a lot of faith in myself. We all believe in ourselves, as shown by our ability to come back into the game.”
On Sunday, Betis will play Sevilla in the Seville derby.
It was Alaves’ fourth straight defeat, leaving them in second place in the 20-team table, two points from safety, with just one win in their last 12 league games.
