Paul Pogba announced Manchester United’s top two finishers before offering a diplomatic response to the Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi debate. The French midfielder is also called the two most difficult players he has seen in his career. Read more about Ronaldo vs Messi debate below.
Pogba, 28, took part in a Q&A in United’s matchday program, where he was asked who is the best at hitting the back of the net – rather than Luke Shaw, who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes is the best.
After teasing that the better finisher was Harry Maguire, the World Cup winner decided on Mason Greenwood, a youth, and Edinson Cavani, a veteran.
Pogba stated: “Aside from Shaw? I’d like to suggest Maguire. Mason, I believe, is the best finisher. Yeah, Mason, I’d say. Edi, too. Mason with his feet and Edi with his head, to be sure.”
But Pogba was less certain when it came to choosing between Messi and Ronaldo, two of the best footballers of all time. Instead, he maintained that they were two separate legends and that he wanted to love them all.
Pogba said, “It’s a fun but tricky topic because there is no best for me. Two distinct characters. They’re two athletes who are a pleasure to enjoy. People will form their own opinions about them, despite though they are two legends. I’d just say they’re two stories, and neither is better than the other. Just two people who make us football players or football fans happy to watch.”
Finally, Pogba named N’Golo Kante and Casemiro as his two toughest opponents.
Kante, a Chelsea midfielder who won the World Cup with Pogba in 2018, is known for his outstanding energy and desire to get the ball back.
Casemiro, Kante’s Champions League semi-final foe, has been the main man in Real Madrid’s midfield behind Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in recent years.
Pogba stated: “My most difficult opponent on the field? To be honest, it’s difficult to compete with N’Golo Kante. Casemiro is also a tough one. I can’t recall any of them; they’re just the first ones that came to mind. Yes, those are the first ones; there might be a few more players, but I don’t have their names right now.”
