Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah could miss the start of the 2021-22 Premier League season after being named to Egypt’s preliminary squad for the Tokyo Olympics.
Each country is permitted three players over the age of 24 in its squad for the summer tournament, and Egypt’s under-23 coach Shawky Gharib has said that Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah will be included if necessary.
According to Gharib, Salah will miss Liverpool’s pre-season and the start of the new season due to games between July 23 and August 8, and Egypt has yet to talk to Jurgen Klopp’s side regarding the winger’s inclusion.
“The preliminary squad of Egypt Under 23s team will be headed by Mohamed Salah and Mohamed El-Shen along with another goalkeeper,” Gharib told Egyptian television.
“Salah is one of the most important players in the world right now, so it’s natural to expect him to be appointed to Egypt’s Olympic team. After the international break in March, we will begin formal talks with Liverpool.”
