After Arsenal’s victory over Leicester City on Sunday, Mikel Arteta gave an update on Emile Smith Rowe’s injury.

Smith Rowe hobbled off in the first half of Arsenal’s 3-1 win at the King Power Stadium and was substituted by Real Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard.

Following the match, Arteta addressed the 20-year-situation, old’s expressing his hope that an up-and-coming star would not be sidelined for long.

“He had a muscle injury and wasn’t feeling good, so we wanted to take him out,” the Spaniard explained.

“I’m hoping it’s not too bad.”

The increased risk of injury caused by this season’s fixture schedule, according to Arteta: “The number of games and tournaments is crazy.”

Smith Rowe’s recovery will have to be assessed by Arsenal’s medical team before an official timetable can be provided, but he may be a doubt for Saturday’s Premier League match against Burnley.

If he is unable to play in that match, supporters will be hoping that the midfielder, who has five goals in 22 games this season, will be able to return in time for the first leg of the Europa League round-of-16 tie against Olympiacos on March 11.

Youri Tielemans took advantage of some poor defending from the visitors to score the opening goal in the sixth minute, giving Arsenal the worst possible start at King Force.
