Rio Ferdinand has urged Manchester United to “give everything” to sign Erling Haaland, urging the prolific Norwegian striker to be the man who “brings trophies back” to Old Trafford.
During the winter transfer window of 2020, the Red Devils were in the market for a highly coveted signing, but a hot prospect turned them down on his way to Borussia Dortmund.
Interest in Haaland has remained at Old Trafford, with the talented Leeds-born 20-year-old retaining impressive standards in Germany, and the talented Leeds-born 20-year-old is now being linked with top sides across Europe.
“You know what, they just have to go and give anything to get Haaland, I don’t care,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel about the scramble to land Haaland and the need for United to put themselves at the front of that line.
“I don’t like talking about players who come from other teams, but this guy man, we can’t afford to lose him.
“England is his only destination; it’s the only place he’ll go. I’d be shocked if he went somewhere else.
“I was born and raised in this town. His father played football in England, so he enjoys the game. I’m sure it’s one of his goals to perform in England.
“Why not in the Old Trafford red shirt? Be the one who takes the trophy around. Why not in the Old Trafford red shirt? Be the one who returns trophies to Man United and resurrects the prosperous era. You should be that guy.”
