Manchester United’s key transfer target for 2021 has been set. It is none other than Erling Haaland.
According to The MEN, both John Murtough, the new director of football and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the manager, agree that a new striker is required and that the man they want is the Borussia Dortmund player.
Haaland joined Dortmund in January and has a €75 million release clause that doesn’t kick in until June 2022.
However, the buzzards – United, Manchester City, and Real Madrid – are circling this summer, trying to convince Dortmund to release him sooner with an offer substantially higher than that number.
Dortmund has added fuel to the fire by revealing that they will have to sell either Haaland or Jadon Sancho this summer to balance the books.
The MEN reports, ‘The Manchester Evening News understands that United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and football director John Murtough believe that Haaland, 20, is the perfect long-term substitute for Romelu Lukaku,’ says the Manchester Evening News. ‘
United is still searching for a new center-back, but they will only be able to spend a large amount of money on one area of their squad this season, and they have only scored four goals in their last six games.
Haaland is also thought to be seeking a weekly wage of £350,000,’ according to the study, and Manchester City is interested because Sergio Aguero is supposed to leave in the summer.
United is debating whether or not to extend Edinson Cavani’s contract due to his fitness problems. United was swift to point the finger at Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, for the failure of a €20 million deal last season.
Despite the Raiola factor, United believes Solskjaer’s partnership with Haaland, whom he managed at Molde, and the Norwegian’s talent outweighs the issue of dealing with an agent who has tried to force Paul Pogba out of United on numerous occasions.
