According to The Sun, Manchester United is on the verge of securing a £70 million a year sponsorship contract.

The club’s existing £64 million a year jersey sponsorship contract with Chevrolet expires in December, and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has been working on a new deal to replace it.

According to The Sun, he may have discovered it because ‘a mystery American tech corporation is thought to be the front-runner to replace Chevrolet.’

‘According to sources, negotiations with a possible new partner are still underway.’

‘It also means that next season, Man United can wear — and sell — shirts with two different names on the front.’

It’s rare for a team to switch jersey sponsors in the middle of the season, but United’s Chevrolet contract was extended for another six months after the pandemic delayed their attempts to find a new sponsor.

Woodward gets a lot of flak from United fans for his management of the transfer market, but few question his business acumen. If he can outdo the Chevrolet contract – which is now the biggest in football – he can rule the fanbase for a day.

According to The Sun, “the club is also preparing to appoint a new executive to concentrate specifically on managing relationships with sponsors and clients,” and “the club is also planning to appoint a new executive to focus specifically on handling relationships with sponsors and clients.”

‘The club is also preparing to hire a new executive to concentrate exclusively on managing partnerships with sponsors and customers, allowing Woodward more flexibility to focus on other facets of United’s company juggernaut,’ according to The Sun.
