According to sources, Manchester United is expected to offer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a new £10 million-a-year deal.
The Norwegian, who was initially hired temporarily by the Red Devils in December 2018, is currently under contract with the club until 2022.
Although he has yet to win a cup, club officials are persuaded that he is the best man for the long haul.
According to The Mirror, even though United does not win the Europa League this season, Solskjaer will be given a new three-year contract. The 48-year-old is now expected to earn a £2.5m increase from his present £7.5m-per-year pay.
When asked about a new deal, Solskjaer told Norwegian publication VG: “I hadn’t considered it, and we hadn’t mentioned it at all. I’m just trying to do my job, and part of the job is to stabilize matters. We must work tirelessly to maintain continuity on the pitch. If you lose a game, it is always a crisis off the field. And if you concede a goal in stoppage time against Everton, it generates a lot of attention. That is all that can happen in football. However, it is more secure on the inside. We feel like we’re on our way to doing what we talked about and expected. I know there has been a lot of criticism and debate on one thing or another, but if you first set a path, then I have so much confidence in yourself that I don’t waver too much.”
Solskjaer, who was originally hired as an emergency manager, managed to restore the club after the tumultuous end to Jose Mourinho’s time at Old Trafford.
And he drew on that momentum last season, finishing third in the Premier League and making the semi-finals of both domestic cups as well as the Europa League.
United is still in second place this season, despite having already been eliminated from both the League Cup and the FA Cup.
The Europa League, in which they face Granada in the quarter-finals, is where they hope to win a trophy.
Regardless of if Solskjaer takes his team across the top, the new rumors indicate that he will be backed by club executives for next season and beyond.
