Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that players will not be allowed to join Portugal for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Azerbaijan, Serbia, and Luxembourg. One of those likely to be barred is Bruno Fernandes.
Following their return to the UK, players from a variety of countries would be required to quarantine for ten days, missing club training and fixtures as a result of government restrictions.
According to Fifa, clubs have the right to prohibit players from representing their countries on international duty if they will be subjected to quarantine conditions upon their return.
“We haven’t sat down and made a proper decision on that one,” Solskjaer told the Mirror.
“It doesn’t make sense if you lose your player for 10 days of solitude because we are the ones paying the players. From what I’ve heard, that (the ability to exclude players from traveling) is the law. I want Bruno ready for Brighton and hopefully, we will be through in Europe and against Tottenham after that.
