Memphis Depay, the star of Lyon, has begun looking for a home in Barcelona after promising to take a pay cut to join the Catalan giants as a free agent this summer. The 27-year-contract old’s with the Ligue 1 club expires in June, and he has been linked with a summer move to the Nou Camp with compatriot Ronald Koeman. Now it seems that the change is becoming a possibility, with news in Spain claiming he was looking for a new place to live in Barcelona last week.
According to the Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, the Dutchman was seen looking at ‘high-end apartments in the sophisticated district of Pedralbes with friends and relatives.
Following his flying tour, where he looked at several homes. Depay returned to Lyon before appearing in the club’s tense match against Monaco. This saw five players sent off while Depay scored and assisted in the 3-2 away victory. Now, as he enters his final month with the Ligue 1 club. Depay is likely to reject competition from Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Inter Milan to be reunited with his former international coach Ronald Koeman in Catalonia.
Catalan TV station Esport3 announced last month that the club is renegotiating a six-month contract extension for Depay. But he is being paid half or marginally more than half of what he was offered in October.
According to the same source, Depay has better financial offers from Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Inter Milan. The player eventually wants to play under Koeman again, having played under him at the international level.
