One of the contract’s add-on clauses allows Barcelona to pay Liverpool £17 million if Coutinho makes 100 LaLiga appearances. Coutinho is just 10 games away from meeting the landmark, but according to Marca, the Brazilian has experienced a series of setbacks in his rehab and will miss the rest of the season.

The LaLiga giants decided to send Coutinho for surgery on April 5th. The decision was taken so that the midfielder was set to return in three months. However, according to the Spanish outlet, Coutinho has been left out of Barcelona’s remaining fixtures for the 2020-2021 season.

Ronald Koeman, according to Sportsmail, is keen to offload the Brazilian during the summer transfer window.

Coutinho is linked with a move to the Premier League. Tottenham and Arsenal both have expressed interest in the 28-year-old. Though a move to Liverpool is also on the table, Jurgen Klopp looks to strengthen his failing squad.

In January 2018, the arrival of Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool to Camp Nou was heralded as a vital transfer for Barcelona. But the transfer has not gone as planned.

The deal was the most lucrative in the club’s history, with a record €120 million down payment. However, things have not gone as expected.

The Brazilian spent the entire 2019-20 season on loan at Bayern Munich. He was unable to establish himself as a first-team regular.
