Liverpool midfielder Sadio Mane has said the team is aiming to win the Champions League, admitting the fight for the English title is over.
“At the start of the season, we were aiming for the Champions League, the Premier League, and the cup competitions. I can say it’s over for us in the Premier League at the moment because the gap is too big. We mentally tell ourselves never to give up, and we won’t,” Mane said to ESPN.
“But, of course, Manchester City is a great team, getting into the top 4 now is our main goal. And the Champions League. We know it won’t be easy because we will have to beat the best teams in Europe. But that is what we are here for if that is possible. So we will try to win the Champions League.”
Liverpool is currently in 6th place in the EPL standings with 40 points after 25 rounds. They are 19 points behind leaders Manchester City.
The club defeated RB Leipzig 2-0 in the first leg of the Champions League last eight in a nominal away game. The return leg takes place on 10 March.
