According to ESPN, La Liga has denied threatening Barcelona with relegation if new club president Joan Laporta would not have financial assurances.
Laporta took office formally this week, with his inauguration on March 17th.

Only the day before, it was revealed that Laporta had refused to supply the league’s governing body with a guaranteed contribution in Barcelona of €124.6 million, which constitutes 15% of the club’s expenditure. He had a day to resolve the problem, and finally, the funds were identified.

Toni Freixa, Laporta’s presidential opponent in Barcelona, said today that La Liga leader Javier Tebas had previously told acting club president Carles Tusquets that if financial assurances were not given, the team would be relegated to the Segunda.

La Liga, on the other hand, denied that Tebas and Tusquets had any interaction during the election time.

The league further stated that if assurances had not been made, Barcelona would have been forced to re-run the presidential election, but there would have been no possibility of relegation.
