Juventus revealed on Wednesday that it had completed the purchase of Weston McKennie from Schalke for 18.5 million euros ($22.3 million), bringing the American midfielder’s loan spell to an end.

Juve said in a statement that an extra 6.5 million euros in add-ons will be paid to Schalke “if such conditions are met during the deal.”

McKennie has signed a new deal with Juve that will keep him with the Italian champions until the end of June 2025, according to the club.

McKennie, 22, joined Juve on a season-long loan from Schalke, a German Bundesliga crisis club, in the summer.

After the coronavirus pandemic, the US international spent four years in Germany and made 91 appearances for Schalke, but the Bundesliga club found itself in a precarious financial position.

Since he arrived in Italy, he has made an impression for Juve, scoring four goals in 31 appearances for the ‘Old Lady’ of Italian football.

When the initial loan was announced in August, Juve stated that they would buy McKennie if he reached certain unspecified goals, and the club stated on Wednesday that “it is because of this, that as of today, he has become an outright Juventus player.”
