Jose Mourinho wasted little time in securing a new job after being fired by Tottenham, with the Portuguese set to take over as manager of Roma on a three-year deal from 2021-22.

Jose Mourinho to take charge of Roma from the new season

The 58-year-old was fired as Tottenham boss on April 19, after struggling to impress a third Premier League club. His stock, however, remains strong, especially in Italy, where he previously enjoyed significant success with Inter, and a job as the successor to Paulo Fonseca at Stadio Olimpico is expected to be taken on after committing to a contract until 2024.

Clubs Official Statement

President Dan Friedkin and vice-president Ryan Friedkin issued the following statement on the club’s official website: “We are overjoyed to welcome Jose Mourinho to the AS Roma family. Jose will bring immense leadership and wisdom to our exciting project. He is a fantastic competitor who has won titles at every level. Jose’s promotion is a significant step toward establishing a long-term and consistent winning atmosphere in the club.”

A man who led Inter to treble glory in 2010 has won 25 big trophies in his career to date.

He expects to see more success in the Italian capital. Saying of his new job at Roma, he said: “Thank you to the Friedkin family for entrusting me with the leadership of this wonderful club. And for being a part of their vision. After speaking with the ownership and Tiago Pinto, I realized the full scope of their plans for AS Roma. It is the same passion and motivation that has always inspired me. We hope to create a successful project together in the coming years.”

Mourinho is one of only three managers to have won the Champions League with two separate teams. Porto and Inter Milan. He has also won domestic titles in Portugal, England, Italy, and Spain.

Even though his time at Spurs ended in trophyless failure, Roma is convinced he will excel in their dugout.
