Inter confirms five coronavirus case

Inter reported that five staff members had tested positive for coronavirus infection.

Positive tests were all returned by managing directors Alessandro Antonello and Giuseppe Marotta, sports director Piero Ausilio and lawyer Angelo Capellini.

An unspecified member of the technical staff of Series A Leaders also tested positive for COVID-19.

A statement on Inter’s official website read: “The protocols set out in the health protocol will be followed by all coaches and the entire team.”

Inter will be desperate to ensure that their first-team squad or coaches will not be spread by this epidemic.

With a 3-0 victory over city rivals Milan last time out, the Italians extended their lead to four points at the top of the table.

Antonio Conte’s men are heavy favorites to end an 11-year wait for the title with no European obligations over the remainder of the season.

During Jose Mourinho’s spell at the club in 2010, which also brought European Cup success, they last lifted the Scudetto.

Juventus, who have won the last nine Serie A championships, is in the third position with a game in hand, sitting eight points out.

Inter are next in Sunday’s action as they face Genoa at the San Siro.
