Gerard Pique, a Barcelona midfielder, has sprained his knee ligaments and is doubtful for the club’s Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain.
The center-back, who scored a last-minute equalizer to send Barcelona’s Copa del Rey semi-final against Sevilla to extra time on Wednesday, had been out for nearly three months earlier this season due to a knee injury. Barcelona won the tie 3-0 in extra time, overcoming a 2-0 deficit from the first leg.
“The medical examination and tests conducted this morning revealed that first-team player Gerard Pique has a sprain in his right knee’s internal lateral ligament. As a result, he is unavailable, and his return date will be determined by the severity of his injury “a statement from the club read.
Injury has limited the 34-year-old to only 15 appearances this season, and local media reports that Pique will be out for another three weeks.
Pique will miss the second leg of Barcelona’s Round of 16 matches against PSG on Wednesday if he misses three weeks.
After a horror show at Camp Nou last month, Barcelona flies to the French capital trailing 4-1 from the first leg.
