Gareth Bale has put an end to rumors about continuing his tenure at Tottenham Hotspur by announcing that he wants to return to Real Madrid next season.

Wales captain returned to the Premier League side on a season-long loan from LaLiga giants, where he has had a mixed season so far.

Bale has a year left on his deal at the Bernabeu, and speaking ahead of Wales’ first 2022 World Cup qualifier against Belgium, the 31-year-old confirmed his time at Spurs is coming to an end.

“I don’t have much to distract me. I guess the biggest reason I came to Spurs this year was first and foremost to play football,” Bale said.

“I had to be match-fit with the Euros. The initial idea was for him to spend a season at Spurs and then move to Real Madrid after the Euros. I plan to go there, that’s as far as I’m going.”

Bale, who raises about £600,000 a week, was formerly considered surplus to requirements by Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.

“But what I’m loving is that he’s proven me and a lot of other people wrong by literally taking himself up to a degree I didn’t think he was capable of.”
