Manchester City increased its Premier League lead to 17 points with a 3-0 win over Fulham.

Sergio Aguero scored his first Premier League goal since January 2020 as Manchester City defeated Fulham 3-0 to extend their lead at the top of the table.

With a 1-0 victory in Liverpool last weekend, Scott Parker’s Cottagers gave their survival chances a huge boost, but City’s runaway leaders brought them crashing down with a clinical second-half showing.

In the first half, neither team looked especially impressive, with Alphonse Areola’s few chances not causing him too much concern.

But Pep Guardiola’s side capitalized on their opportunities in the second half, with goals from John Stones, Gabriel Jesus, and Sergio Aguero, the latter’s first league goal since being injured on January 21 last year.

Fulham began the game brighter, with Ademola Lookman’s speed and trickery causing problems, but he overplayed early on, allowing Ruben Dias to block the shot.

At the other end, Areola made routine saves from Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero, but the goalkeeper was unable to hold City out at the start of the second half.

Stones caught Joao Cancelo’s free-kick delivery 76 seconds after the restart and directed the ball into near range. By the hour mark, it was 3-0 – first, Jesus rounded Areola and broke the deadlock after Joachim Andersen’s clearance struck Ivan Cavaliero and dropped to the Brazilian.
Then Tosin Adarbioyo, a former City youth, was targeted by Ferran Torres on the edge of his area and brought him down, with Aguero converting the penalty.

City won the game comfortably to extend their lead at the top to 17 points, although second-placed Manchester United had two games in hand.
