Erling Haaland seems to have quenched rumors over a summer departure from Borussia Dortmund by telling future suitors that he already has three years left on his deal with the Bundesliga side.
The race to sign the Norwegian striker is set to dominate the summer transfer window, with Real Madrid, Chelsea, and all Manchester clubs vying for his services.
Haaland, who has 33 goals in 31 games this season, has continued his meteoric rise with Dortmund since making an impressive debut with Red Bull Salzburg last season.
It has fueled talk that they will sell him this summer, as Dortmund looks highly likely to lose out on Champions League football and their finances have been severely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
However, Haaland, who has a £90 million termination clause in his Dortmund contract that must be triggered in a single payout, has reminded those involved in securing his services that he already has a long-term agreement with Dortmund.
‘I still have three years of contract [at Dortmund],’ Haaland said while on international service with Norway. ‘I’m not concerned with that.’
While Haaland is legally bound in Germany, sources in Spain say that if Dortmund fails to qualify for the Champions League, he will attempt to push his way out as his dissatisfaction grows.
On Saturday afternoon, a video of Haaland storming down the tunnel after Dortmund’s 2-2 draw with Cologne, in which he scored a goal, went viral, as his team lost more points in the Bundesliga.
Real Madrid has recently made him a “priority” signing, seeing him as the long-term replacement for Karim Benzema at the Bernabeu.
It’s also been reported that Haaland ‘likes the choice’ of playing in Spain and that the strong relationship between Dortmund boss Hans-Joachim Watzke and Real Madrid counterpart Florentino Pérez may work in their favor.
Pep Guardiola’s City is thought to be leading the chase, with the Norwegian striker considering a return to the club where his hero, Alf Inge, spent three years before an injury ended his career.
