Covid19 outbreak led NFL to ax London games

By the news that the 2020 NFL London games are canceled, a big financial blow has been addressed to Tottenham.

 

On Monday it had been revealed that the upcoming season is going to be played entirely within us, meaning that Spurs, who should host two matches, are out of pocket.

Fears over the coronavirus outbreak have led the NFL to ax the planned London games, the opposite two of which might have taken place at Wembley.

NFL scraps all four London 2020 matches planned for Wembley and Tottenham, reports BBC Sport. Two matches were planned for Wembley involving the Jacksonville Jaguars, with two more matches scheduled for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The matches will now be held within the U.S. after organizers have decided that thanks to the coronavirus pandemic it had been impossible to rearrange games on a far off continent.

London’s games were planned for the autumn of 2020 but no definitive dates had been set. this may be the primary time since 2006 that an NFL regular-season game has not been played in London. Mayor Sadiq Khan of London said it had been “definitely the proper option to make sure the health of anyone involved within the sport.”

Although Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy said they “excellently appreciate the difficult decision to form by the NFL.”NFL UK director Alistair Kirkwood added:” NFL’s London Games became an enormous a part of the NFL season and therefore the UK sports calendar.

But the uncertainty of the present sporting environment and therefore the huge amount of long-term travel and planning required to stage successful games in London suggests that this is often the wise option to make.’
