Fulham progressed to Premier League safety within six points, but their remarkable winless run at Turf Moor continued as Burnley came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw.
The Cottagers were chasing back-to-back wins for the first time since last July to make up ground in the battle of relegation and they went ahead in the 49th minute when Ola Aina unknowingly deflected in the pouring rain from the corner of Ademola Lookman into the net.
Until that point, Burnley had been marginally on top in a tight game and Ashley Barnes deservedly brought them level three minutes later as the Clarets continued their unbeaten 70-year run against Fulham at their home ground.
Scott Parker’s side will have a chance to further reduce the deficit as they take on rock-bottom Sheffield United on Saturday night before Newcastle travels to high-flying Manchester United a day later.
Burnley, meanwhile, remains eight points ahead of Fulham, but their injury woes seem to show no indication of fading with Johann Berg Gudmundsson set to join a host of first-teamers on the sidelines, although the replacement for Robbie Brady lasted just 25 minutes before being replaced.
