Karim Benzema has been talking about what it’s like to play for Real Madrid with and without Cristiano Ronaldo, acknowledging that the Portuguese pressured him to change his game because “he scored 50 goals last year.”

Between 2009 and 2018, Ronaldo spent nine years at the Santiago Bernabeu before joining Serie A champions Juventus in Italy.

Benzema frequently found himself in the shadow of a more illustrious teammate, but his worth was still recognized by those around him, and the 33-year-old has flourished since taking over as the final third’s main man.

“Cristiano’s departure allowed me to play a different role,” Benzema told El Pais about working with Ronaldo. Every year, he scored 50 goals, and you had to adjust to his style. I was proud to be by his side because he is one of the best in the world.”

After a record-breaking move from Manchester United, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner joined the Blancos. He got off to a fast start, scoring 33 goals in his first season, and never looked back.

Ronaldo scored at least 40 goals in each of the next eight seasons, with a personal high of 61 in 2014-15, as Real won two Liga titles and four Champions League titles.

In total, he found the goal on 450 occasions in 438 appearances for Madrid, rewriting history regularly.
