Bayern Munich went on the lookout for a center-back before the start of the current season, according to Spanish newspaper Diario AS.
Thiago Alcantara’s departure to Liverpool has left the German club with just one choice in the form of Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez.
The reigning German champion had to compete, at least in the press, against Catalan Barcelona and Manchester City for the player, but in the end, Saul chose none of the aforementioned teams.
The 26-year-old Spanish midfielder has stayed with Diego Simeone this season, appearing in 29 games and scoring two goals.
On the other side, because of the large amount of the fee—150 million euros—the new deal between Saul and Atletico, which is valid until the summer of 2026, does not offer much room for negotiation with the Madrid club.
