If Ousmane Dembele appears this weekend against Alaves, Barcelona will have to pay an extra € 5 million to Borussia Dortmund.
In August 2017, the Catalans agreed to an agreement of EUR 105 million with the German club to conclude an international agreement with France, with an additional EUR 40 million included in a movement focused on a performance-related add-on.
According to a Marca article, if he plays against Abelardo Fernandez’s side, a € 5 million bonus will now be awarded automatically.
Based on their consistent Champions League qualification, Barcelona paid a bonus of EUR 25 million over three and a half years to Catalonia.
The resulting payout relates to the former Rennes winger making 25 appearances in Spanish football on four or more occasions in a season, with the 23-year-old expected to play against Alaves for his 100th club.
In recent months, Dembele has returned to Barcelona’s starting XI, after a disruptive injury restricted him to just three starts in La Liga in the 2019/20 season.
The remaining € 10 million will be paid to Dortmund if, during his tenure at the club, Barcelona wins two Champions League titles.
