Atletico Madrid secures a vital 2-0 win away to Villarreal

Who knows how the match at Estadio de la Ceramica would have ended if it hadn’t been for the incident in the 25th minute.

Stefan Savi hit the ball with his head after a free-kick, Sergio Asenjo instinctively deflected it, and Alfonso Pedraza put it into his net. The local defender was unable to stop it because he didn’t even see the ball bouncing in his direction.

Villarreal had a chance to equalize before the break. Gerard Moreno, on the other hand, did not have enough hold of the ball in the penalty area to surprise Jan Oblak.

Joao Felix scored the game-winning goal in the second half. With a shot into the long corner, the Portuguese reached a stray ball in front of him and beat Asenjo.

The Rojiblancos now have a five-point lead over Barcelona and a six-point lead over Real Madrid, despite Barcelona having played one more match.
