Anthony Martial of Manchester United could be out for the remaining season after suffering a knee injury while on international duty with France.
The 25-year-old limped out of France’s victory in Kazakhstan, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that he has a sprained knee.
This could keep Martial on the field for the remaining eight weeks of the season, with United possibly facing 14 more games if they win the Europa League.
According to Solskjaer, early indications from the France camp suggested that Martial’s injury was not as severe as it seems.
“He sprained his knee with France, so it’s fingers crossed and hope he comes back fit,” Solskjaer told MUTV.
“Paul played in all three games, which was a win for us, but losing Anthony for the rest of the season is very disappointing, particularly because reports and signals from there suggest it wasn’t something major, but it looks terrible.”
United was one substitution down for their Premier League match against Brighton and Hove Albion, although this is due to Alex Telles withdrawing from the squad due to illness.
“Alex was feeling a little sick, a non-Covid relayed, but he’s not good enough to play,” Solskjaer explained.
