TalkSPORT host Ally McCoist has replied to Paul Ince’s audacious argument that Manchester United should sign Sergio Aguero this summer. If he does not sign a new deal, the Manchester City legend will be allowed to leave the Etihad on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Pep Guardiola has opted to play Gabriel Jesus or a winger as a false nine instead of Aguero, who has been ravaged with injuries this season.
Former Manchester United midfielder Ince has proposed that Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer make an audacious move to sign Aguero.
“Sergio Aguero may be leaving Manchester City, so why shouldn’t United make a move for him? You could see that right now. If he wanted to play in the Premier League and is now residing in Manchester, I don’t think it would be a bad thing if they went out and signed Aguero. Who knows, that could happen. If you’re a United supporter, you should raise the question because you never know. It happened to us in 1992 when Howard Wilkinson asked Sir Alex Ferguson about [signing] Denis Irwin,” he told Ladbrokes.
“Fergie said there was no risk of it happening and recommended Leeds sell [Eric] Cantona to them – and that sale was completed within a matter of days. It was just Fergie putting a name out there and hoping for the best. Maybe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can do that with Sergio Aguero this summer.”
However, talkSPORT host McCoist believes United does not need another “short-term patch” in the striker position and has urged the club to sign either Harry Kane or Erling Haaland.
