With a 2-1 victory over Parma on Thursday, Inter Milan moved six points clear at the top of Serie A. Alexis Sanchez scored twice in the second half for his first brace in the Inter Milan shirt. Romelu Lukaku assisted on both of his former Manchester United teammate’s goals, giving Antonio Conte’s side their sixth straight league victory.
Inter moves four points ahead of second-placed Milan, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Udinese on Wednesday, with champions Juventus trailing by four points with a game in hand.
“The improvement over last year is evident but 13 games are remaining, and in Serie A, each game is a struggle,” Conte cautioned.
In place of Lautaro Martinez, Chilean Sanchez started up front alongside Lukaku to lead Inter’s attack.
Conte, who led Inter to second place in Serie A in his first season in charge, added, “I think I’m a very egalitarian coach, in the sense that I don’t owe anything to anyone. There is a group, and the member is brought in later. Sanchez is in the best shape he’s ever been in,” Conte added. And now Romelu and Lautaro are aware that Sanchez is also on their tail. I’m pleased because my children are demonstrating excellent application and perseverance.”
At the Stadio Ennio Tardini, both teams had opportunities in the first half.
After half an hour, Christian Eriksen squandered a chance to score for Inter in front of an open goal after good work from Achraf Hakimi.
Luigi Sepe of Parma denied Lukaku just before the break, with the Belgian nodding just wide of an Ivan Perisic cross.
At the other end, Samir Handanovic did well to keep out a near-range header from Jasmin Kurtic, with Dennis Man also nodding wide.
