Arnold and Keita racially abused online: Clubs Statement
The club added “Once again we are unfortunately debating abhorrent racist abuse the morning after a football game. It is completely unacceptable and must be stopped. LFC opposes all kinds of prejudice and will continue to fight against it through our equality allies through our Red Together initiative.”
“As a club, we will give our players any and all assistance that they will require. We can also collaborate with the appropriate agencies to locate and, if possible, punish those who are responsible. We recognize that this will not suffice until social media sites and the legislative bodies that regulate them implement the most stringent preventative steps possible. The present condition cannot be expected to persist, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that it does not,” the statement added.
Brentford characterized the recent racial violence aimed at Ivan Toney as “spineless” on Tuesday night. In January, the football club reported a social media user after he sent racist messages to the striker. Instagram subsequently suspended the user’s account.
Toney was sent a direct message after starting Brentford’s 0-0 draw with Birmingham on Tuesday, which included a various monkey and banana emojis and characterized Brentford as a “gay fool team.”
Toney posted a snapshot of the messages on his Instagram story with the caption, “Honestly, I’m done,” and his club condemned the violence.
