Gaetano Castrovilli came off the bench and changed Spezia’s game, scoring one goal, assisting Dusan Vlahovic, and sparking Valentin Eysseric with another.
With the use of VAR, the game was altered because Fiorentina’s goal was initially disallowed. It took technology to confirm that, when hooking Biraghi’s cross back from the by-line for Dusan Vlahovic to convert into an empty net, Castroville had somehow managed to keep the ball in play.
Soon after, Viola threatened another, but Ivan Provedel bravely rushed off his line to smother at the feet of Valentin Eysseric after a counter-attack by Vlahovic.
Castroville added a goal to his assist, as Julian Chabot’s sliding tackle prevented Eysseric from completing a team pass, but the ball came to Castroville to fire into the roof of the net.
Spezia pinned Fiorentina back into her half, but on the counter, the hosts were threatening, Provedel sticking a foot out to deny Vlahovic on a deflected assist from Castroville.
A loose ball from eight yards had to be fingered off by Bartlomiej Dragowski, but the Viola entered the counter again. To roll it across for Eysseric to tap into an empty net, Castroville pounced on an Estevez defensive error, Vlahovic dragging defenders towards him.
