Wales captain Gareth Bale labeled their World Cup playoff match against Austria as one of the biggest games of his career. Bale has trained before the showdown at the Cardiff stadium and has opened up on helping his country qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1958. His fitness was a doubt after Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti said he was a doubt for the El Classico. Real Madrid was beaten 4-0 by Barcelona on their home patch after a scintillating performance by the Catalans.

“He didn’t feel well yesterday after training. He tried this morning but he wasn’t up to playing,” Carlo Ancelotti said. “He’s now going to join up with his national team and they’ll decide whether he plays or not.”

“It’s going to be one of the biggest games I’ve played in for sure. Having not qualified for a World Cup before, it’s something that I want to achieve, the country wants to achieve and the fans want to achieve. I guess it’s another big game we need to get ready for and take in our stride like we always do,” Wales captain Gareth Bale said. “It’s normal to have some niggles. I’ve been training for the last two and a half months. I’m in a lot better shape than I was in the last camp where I’d been out for about three months.”

“I wouldn’t say I’d regret it, it’s not in my hands, it would be something I’d love to achieve for my country and the fans of Wales,” he added. “We kind of deserve to be in the World Cup, it’s been a long time. It won’t be a regret [if we don’t qualify] but it will be a regret if we don’t give it 100 percent.”
