In Arsenal’s Saturday afternoon defeat at Brighton, Matteo Guendouzi has avoided a FA ban for an altercation with Neal Maupay. Guendouzi and Maupay niggled at each other for a significant part of the match, with the Frenchman appearing at the full-time whistle to grab his kindred Frenchman by the neck.

The FA wrote about Monday that the Arsenal midfielder will face no penalty for the episode as the occurrence has been investigated by the VAR – in spite of being neglected by on-field officials. Not long before the half-time interval, Maupay had an impact with Bernd Leno that brought about a grisly leg injury endured by the Arsenal goalkeeper-the degree of which isn’t yet known.

Maupay appeared in a post-match interview to allude to his altercation with Guendouzi, saying: “One of them talked the whole game and said really bad things. I simply had to say when I scored, ‘Tune in, that’s what happens when you say bad things on the pitch.’

“Arsenal players would regularly need to learn lowliness. They talked a great deal. They had what they merited.

I’ve experienced a bad accident. It’s hard. “I just went to go grab the ball. He bent his knee when he fell. It’s football, there’s a touch. I never wanted to harm him. I apologize again and wish him a decent recuperation.
