A Mathias Jorgensen own goal helped Brentford secure one of the close football scores of the weekend in the Premier League. Bottom-of-the-league Before Mathias Jorgensen’s haphazard own goal (90+6) in the final second of stoppage time, Forest was on the verge of losing after Yoane Wissa made it 2-1 with 15 minutes remaining. Gibbs-deflected White’s shot (20) had given Forest the lead before Bryan Mbeumo converted from the spot (45+3), with Henderson adjudged to have clipped Wissa, after referee Andre Marriner altered his on-field call due to VAR intervention. While Forest remained rooted to the bottom of the table, two points from safety, Brentford had their first away league win of the season taken away from them at the very last minute, but they climbed up to 10th.
For the majority of the first half, Forest created significant difficulties for Brentford by attempting to harm them on the break. The hosts’ orchestrator, Gibbs-White, had a bit of luck on his side after 20 minutes when Ben Mee’s effort deflected off it and broke the scoreless tie. When Henderson challenged Wissa while the forward went through on goal, referee Marriner gave Brentford a chance to get back into the game by giving them a penalty. After having their own penalty appeals forwarded on numerous occasions, Forest’s players were enraged and pressed upon the referee.
Due to the absence of the regular penalty taker Ivan Toney, Mbeumo took over and converted with ease, sending Henderson the wrong way to maintain Brentford’s perfect record in the Premier League. No team in the top division has converted as many penalties without missing. Despite Mee’s best attempts on the line, Gibbs-shot White’s ricocheted off Jorgensen and into the net in the sixth minute of stoppage time, giving Forest the advantage they desperately sought after having been the superior team for many portions of the game.
