Regan Slater scored a brace to help Hull produce one of the high-scoring football scores of the weekend in the Championship. Hull led 1-0 at halftime thanks to a goal from Dimitrios Pelkas in the fourth minute. At halftime, the home crowd booed their team off the field, but they soon had something to rejoice about as they equalized through Callum Robinson and then seized the lead through Gavin Whyte in the 62nd minute. Slater, however, scored twice quickly after each other to pull Hull even with Cardiff and four points clear of the Championship relegation zone.
Hull got the game underway quickly, taking the lead after only four minutes. Sheyi Ojo gave up possession of the ball after losing it and failing to successfully claim a 30-yard free kick. After six passes, the Tigers had created enough room on the left for the team’s captain, Jacob Greaves, to whip in a cross that got past Ryan Longman at the near post but was a gift for Pelkas to tap in from the edge of the six-yard box. At halftime, Cardiff left the pitch behind by one goal and heard their fans boo them.
If there wasn’t much to cheer about in the first 45 minutes, Cardiff fans quickly woke up after the interval as Robinson leveled the score 90 seconds into the second half. Robinson had the easy chore of stroking the ball into an open net when Ralls stepped in and the ball fell to him. After serving a three-game suspension for receiving a red card in the South Wales derby, Robinson made his comeback and turned provider with a cross that Whyte headed in. At that point, Cardiff had the upper hand, but Slater drastically changed the tide of the match when he held off Ralls on the edge of the box and buried a low effort into the left corner of Allsop’s goal. Two minutes later, he contributed to the preparation of a raid down the left wing, which resulted in him sidefooting in the game-winning goal in the 77th minute.
