Football Scores: Barnsley 1-3 Preston

Daniel Johnson scored a brace to help Preston produce one of the comfortable football scores of the weekend in the Championship. Aiden Marsh opened the scoring in the 17th minute before Johnson equalized in the 23rd minute. He gave them the lead in the 54th minute before Emil Riis sealed the three points in the 74th minute. The loss meant that Barnsley will finish the season rooted to the bottom of the table while Preston moves up to 14th, level on points with Stoke City and Swansea City on 61 points with a game left.

Managers Reaction

Barnsley’s Martin Devaney: “I think it was a big improvement from Tuesday [2-0 loss to Blackpool]. There was a reaction from the players, albeit with some fresh faces and also giving an opportunity to some of the lads that have not played this season. I thought that they dealt with the situation really well. We could have been a little bit better when we won the ball. It’s small steps but I think it was a big improvement.”

Preston’s Ryan Lowe: “We have got a group in there that do respond quite well as you have seen. It’s not nice to lose two games, and we don’t want it to be three or four. The response was excellent. I said to them at half-time, if you raise it by 10 or 20 percent, you can go and get a few goals and we could have had five or six. That’s what I wanted.”
