James Maddison scored yet again to help Leicester City produce one of the most comfortable football results of the weekend in the Premier League. Maddison scored in the first eight minutes to celebrate being called up to Gareth Southgate’s 26-man World Cup team. However, Maddison collapsed holding his lower leg 17 minutes later. He left the medical center after being examined by the staff without exhibiting any signs of limping, and he later took a seat in the Leicester dugout without displaying any signs of concern for his injury.
Back on the field, West Ham will believe they should have at least earned a point because they outshot Leicester, 18 to 9, dominating the shot count. In the first half, Tomas Soucek had the ball in the back of the net, but it was disallowed for offside. After a clumsy Craig Dawson challenge on Patson Daka resulted in a penalty for Youri Tielemans, Lukasz Fabianski also produced an incredible save, but Harvey Barnes (78), following an outstanding run by Ayoze Perez, sealed the victory late on. After a challenging start, the victory moves Leicester into 12th place with 17 points from their first 15 games. West Ham’s supporters booed the team at the conclusion of the match, and the team dropped to 16th place after having now dropped four of their previous five Premier League games.
At the London Stadium, Leicester scored after just eight minutes. Barnes chose the opening for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to enter, with Patson Daka aiding in his cross through the space. When Maddison reached the back post unguarded, she sent the ball into the goal. Leicester ensured the points shortly after. The ball was sent underneath Fabianski by second-half replacement Perez after he drove through the middle and found Barnes in behind.
