Zian Flemming scored a hattrick to help Milwall produce one of the high-scoring football results of the weekend in the Championship. German ace As the Lions earned their first victory in four games thanks to Flemming’s motivation, Preston’s three-game winning streak came to an abrupt end. Flemming gave Millwall a 2-0 lead but Preston fought back and tied the game before the halfway point. But in the second half, the striker scored his third goal, giving Charlie Cresswell a fantastic away victory. In what turned out to be an exciting first 45 minutes, the Lions struck first. Only four minutes had passed when Flemming received a low cross from Andreas Voglsammer. The huge Dutchman then executed a spectacular spin before shooting from eight yards past Freddie Woodman.
Former Wales international Ched Evans’ header at an Emil Riis cross was directly at George Long. In the 16th minute, tired-looking Preston went farther behind, and young Ajax player Flemming scored once again. After Liam Lindsay had clumsily fouled Tom Bradshaw, the forward drilled home a 20-yard free-kick, shocking the home crowd. When it appeared that Preston would have a long afternoon, Andrew Hughes cut the deficit in half in the 20th minute.
As the hour mark drew near, Millwall was struggling, and Evans missed his second chance after breaking through the visitors’ defense. Eventually, North End ran out of gas a little, and the Lions punished them, with that man Flemming causing trouble once more. He grabbed a zinging low cross from Danny McNamara and scored his third goal from six yards. Once again in control, Millwall quickly increased the score to 4-2 to complete an impressive away victory. This time, Voglsammer’s cross took a flick on its way over, and Leeds loanee Cresswell headed home at the far post.
