Arsenal winger Willian claims the Gunners are in “strong hands” under manager Mikel Arteta and have everything they need to regain their spot as one of the world’s best clubs.

Arsenal has not secured the Premier League title since 2004 and currently sits in ninth position this season. However, under former Pep Guardiola assistant Arteta, the Brazilian international thinks the team is on the right track.

“I believe it has the potential to be a fantastic project, a great club, in the hands of a good management, it has all to become one of the best managers in the world,” Willian said.

“Arsenal has what it wants to re-establish itself as a force, to challenge for titles and to play in the Champions League again, and that’s what our players want. He often attempts to speak to the players personally, even on the field; after he ends practicing, he calls the player, discusses what he wants from the player, where the player should be when the player should be receiving the ball… In other words, he is always striving to make the players improve. There is no complaint about this; he is doing an excellent job; he is constantly searching for the best players available, offering them suggestions, leading them, and telling them what he desires. Arsenal is in capable hands.”

Willian has struggled since joining Arsenal from Chelsea last summer, struggling to score in 30 games in all competitions for his new side. He admitted it was his “worst career moment to date,” but he is optimistic he will return to the form that made him a frequent contributor at Stamford Bridge.

Difficulties on the pitch have clashed with problems off the field, when many Black Premier League stars, including Willian, have become the target of racial online violence. Before the season, the league unveiled a movement dubbed “No Space for Racism,” and players have been taking a knee before matches to demonstrate their respect for anti-racism efforts, but Willian expressed discontent at the lack of change.
